In this captivating episode, I sit with Dr. Tunde Adegbola, a renowned Yoruba scholar, language technologist, and cultural thinker, to explore the depth of Yoruba culture as a culture of intellection, one rooted in reasoning, observation, and a profound understanding of the universe.
We go beyond surface interpretations to uncover how the Yoruba language encodes science, philosophy, and spirituality in its very structure. Together, we analyze the etymology and deeper meanings of key Yoruba concepts such as: aworosasa, ogboni, asa, eewo, and many more.
Through this conversation, Dr. Adegbola reveals how Yoruba thought aligns with scientific principles: logic, experimentation, ethics, and equilibrium, long before the rise of Western academia.
This dialogue challenges colonial misconceptions about African knowledge systems and shows how Yoruba civilization is deeply intellectual, rational, and spiritual at once.
If you’re passionate about African philosophy, decolonizing knowledge, Yoruba linguistics, or indigenous science, this episode is a must-watch.

Bless you both for this – you are doing a great thing for the world, not just Nigerians, Yoruba. I know there will be loads of negative and positive things in the comments – Teachers, nay sayers and what-about-mes, please take it all with a pinch of salt. Keep it coming ❤🔥❤🔥💯💯
Sir, I know you believe you didn’t learn this from any Babalawo and you thought these knowledge came to you just by reasoning, inferring, and introspection, but I do believe you are a reincarnated soul who didn’t have the chance to share your knowledge and decided to come back and complete his mission. I believe you were a former Yoruba priest now incarnated as a pastor but still could not escape his destiny (ori). We thank you for fulfilling the dictates of your ori.
Thank you for this insightful video

🎉
I learntso much…. that this shouldn't be free
So, etymology helps unlock the layers of meaning in a pun — making it richer, cleverer, and more effective.
To the host. This is great but if you're going to subtitle, then just speak Yoruba because it makes your conversion more natural and fluid. Ejo
Great discussion. And I believe the main point of this particular episode lies towards the end, when both of them were talking about being fully Yoruba and other religions. Wàà Sere.
Waasere ❤. We lean a lot. Thanks for bringing down some of Dr English to our standard still I have to watch with dictionary 😅😊
I had always known there are explanations to all these things. Spirituality and science goes hand in hand. Thank you so much for making this content. Excellent!
The best of us were sold by the most powerful of us ! Slavery was not brought to us, we sold our best to them .
We need more of Dr. Adegbola, please.
Wow !!! This is very educative and entertaining. Truly, like you said, no one can watch this from the beginning to the end and remain the same. Thank you so much for bringing him here. I’m really blessed and more enlightened now more than before. More power to your elbow.
Wa’sere !👍
Lord this is so amazingly educational and informative. Mo dupe
Please we need prof to come to enlighten us more. I believe there will be more episode from him.
I really love this, my brother and I learned a lot. Thank you prof, more knowledge sir.
Knowledge is power
I've always told people who mystify everything especially our Yoruba culture that they are suffering from colonial mentality.
wow wow wow – Yoruba is too deep
Sorry, Dr Tunde: There are THREE approaches to Valid Knowledge:
1. Direct Experience
2. Inference
3. Reliable Testimony (… of Truth Tellers)
Surely we don't want to exclude, say, testimonial knowledge we gained BEFORE we even reached the 'Age of Reason' at around 12 years?
I do agree, and have been shouting it from the mountain top: Yoruba Culture IS of a 'Knowledge System', rather than a belief system or religion, which is really a system of ignorance.
A 'Knowledge System' is one in which claims made are proved and provable.
On the other hand, In a belief system (such as religions), many of fancy claims made are unproved and un-provable; and the believer is open to much trickery and deception and outright LIES!
.
When claims can't be proven as true, then there is doubt.
And doubt IS the offspring of ignorance.
Thus, belief system is a system of ignorance.
Yoruba System needs to restore much lost knowledge; but the 'crumbs' of knowledge remaining hint at a once robust 'Knowledge System' that was in sync with the Knowledge Systems of Nile Valley and Indus Valley..
I don't know a word in Yoruba Language. lol
However, just by hearing how you guys express the high level of sophistication of the words and their combinations, I'm reminded AGAIN and it has become quite clearer that Yoruba Language IS a 'storehouse' of profound Knowledge.
And due to the profundity of the Yoruba Language, it becomes easy to conclude that Yoruba Culture IS 'Knowledge System'.
There are other clues of course of a 'Knowledge System' besides the Yoruba Language.
The next quest is for someone(s) of the Yoruba Culture to Remember and Recall 'How Yoruba Knowledge was Verified & Validated via Direct Experience'.
What practices Yoruba Ancestors used to use in their Validation of Yoruba Knowledge System.
Fore EVERY 'Knowledge System' is going to have practical and proven and repeatable means to Directly Validate itself.
There can't just be an 'Ifa calling'.
Awesome, nobody sees the red sun and stays the same, you're right, Yo ro ba, in the beginning was the world, aye lon kpe yen, atu wo japan ati china, awa ni yen.
One search led to another and another and I was led here at 3am
People are f*cking knowledgeable man
I am soooooooooooooo grateful and lucky for this discussion, upload, host, guest, and channel.
Thank you very very very much!
🎉❤❤
Agba o ni tan lorile ooo
Thanks for the great information of elevating my culture.
My little observation is for your program to be in solemnly Yoruba's language to waken the curiosity of Yoruba's language and culture among the aged grounded Yoruba people alive. Pls kindly have it on TV and Radio stations in Karo Ojire lands. Take me for example I was brought up in Lagos City where we have no access to core Yoruba's language to know how it's been diminished value wise. It's now.
Just omo
This is explosve!!!
Thank you! Thank you!! Thank You!!!
