Say hello to The Evolution of Us — the series I’ve been dreaming about creating, where seven million years of human history play out across four hours of the story of, well… us.

From the earliest known hominins to the ghost populations hiding in your DNA today, this is the complete story of human evolution as we know it. Every major chapter covered Sahelanthropus, Ardipithecus, Australopithecus, Paranthropus, the entire genus Homo, our sister species the Neanderthals and Denisovans, the origins of art, language, and religion, and the mysterious ghost populations only detectable through ancient DNA. Buckle up. Nature never gives it to you straight.

Oh! And I wrote a book, so definitely make sure to grab it—Epic Earth out now!

  1. Partially repainted my room to this, thank you for an amazing and informative video/poscast! Really engaging script even without all the helpful/fun pictures to occasionally glance over to.

  2. So, thing I'm wondering is; if we got some of the ghost population DNA that changed how our brains work… Maybe that is where Neurodivergence stems from? We are sure its genetic by now, so what if it goes back that long?!
(Also im now just gonna say my allergies & chronic illness are because of having neanderthal/ghost population DNA 😂)

  3. What if theyre not our missing links, but instead just abnormaly mutated individuals, due to incest, witch aparantly happend in those closed and tight tribal sociatys quite common🤔 or maybe those where the few unlucky ones to try touching rafiactive stuff because it glowed nice🤔🤷‍♂️ and mutated after that🤔 since itll still take humanity till marie curie to figure out that Rads are bad for your subscription to life😅🤣

  4. I’m so curious as to why our ancestors could eat raw meat but we eat slightly warm shrimp and get super sick it’s something I have never seen anyone ever talk about which makes me wonder if we have ever even considered or looked into that aspect of human evolution I try I lived in ancient times there was no fire I just ate and nobody died or got sick so why do humans now get so ill when food is poorly cooked not even uncooked but just not cooked enough I am so confident nobody will ever answer this question 😢

  5. 2:46:18 recent update, female homosapiens were more likely to procreate with male neanderthals than the other way. We know this due to some of the genetic analysis done on neanderthal DNA and comparing it to humans. I read about this like 2 days ago

  6. question: did you ever read the book "Kindred: Neanderthal Love, Life, Death, and Art" by Rebecca Wagg Sykes? I'm not sure if it would be to opop-science for you, but it rewrote my brain chemistry and made me cry multiple times! it discusses the world neanderthals lived in—from what they ate to the art they might have made, interspersed with these absolutely spellbinding poetry and prose introductions to each chapter that knocked me on my ass. would10/10 recommend, even if paleo-anthropology and near-human ancestors aren't usually your thing.
