I think it’s time to go back home for the Egungun festival. My children, from as young as age one, have been making sounds like Egungun. I had to start researching why they were displaying that behavior. I asked my parents and their father, and they said there was no Egungun history in the family. But when I did my own research, I discovered that my maternal grandfather’s mother was an Egungun devotee; none of her children inherited or accepted it before she passed. Even her opon Ifa was given to an extended family member, and they are still using it to this day.
