There is a popular rhetoric among the modern Ìgbò, that claims that Ìgbò ancestors were evil and that our noble ancestors worshipped idols and demons.

This narrative which started around the 1840s and 1850s by the Christian missionaries and their converts accuses Ndi Ìgbò of practicing an evil tradition and spirituality which involved the worshipping and keeping of covenants with idols and demons.

Till this very day, these false narratives that stemmed from a misunderstanding of the Ìgbò worldview and cosmology, Odinana na Omenana, has continued to wax strong in the modern Ìgbò society, with Ìgbò Christians and other outsiders championing and sponsoring the malicious lies against the Ìgbò belief system.

The big task which this video accomplishes is to explain and prove without a doubt that Ndị Ìgbò and their ancestors did/do not worship idols and demons. And to do this, we must first provide the basics of the Ìgbò belief system, enshrined in Odinana na Omenana Ìgbò.

  1. Nwanne mmadu, ndewo. I always love your teachings. I have a lot of questions bothering me.

I am new to Odinani and I have no one around me to ask questions because all my family members, friends and associates are all christians.
During Odinani prayers which I got from one of your presentations with one Dibia (aka ji offor), I learnt that we call upon Chiukwu Okike, Chi na Eke and then go down to:
    ezumezu ndi Ichie,
    Chim no Arusi so Chim
Aja ani be Nne na Nnam
ezumezu Umu di Okpara na Umu Ada na be Nne na nna m
ezumezu Ndi Nne na ndi Nna na be Nne na Nna m
Ora Alusi n'ile no na be Nne na Nna m na eme ife oma
Ora Alusi n'ile no na ana Igbo na eme ife oma
    ezumezu ndi Onwa,
    ezumezu ndi Mmiri
    ezumezu ndi Anyanwu and
    ezumezu ndi Ani.

    My question now is,
    (1)
when we call each group of these Agbaras/Spirits/Mmuo, What are these supposed to do for us? In order words, what are their function in our lives. what are we supposed to ask from them? Please, the answer to these questions will help me to know how to pray.
    (2)
What sort of gifts, sacrifice or promises are we supposed say. Please bear in mind that some of us are in diaspora and cannot lay our hands on the traditional things for prayers or kill a goat or chicken where we are until the time we come home which most of us do not know when.

I am eagerly waiting for your response and I will appreciate it so much if you do. Okike gozie gi na ezi na ulo gi.

  3. We should go deep into our history and build our tradition this is what will bring us together.
We have forgotten who we are, u only become powerful when u know who u are.

  4. I have been asking this questions what are the characteristics of God and the devil, because the characteristics of the spirit of my four fathers is like that of God, such as justice , punishment of sins , doesn't support evils and so on ,and we are calling her devil , hmmm

  5. It all feels right and makes sense. Thank you for your work and efforts. As a black American with Igbo ancestry looking for resources and info on odinani your channel has been a goldmine. Much appreciation🙏🏾

  6. Thanks for enlightening us.
I am 88 years old. At this age I am just understanding the Igbo belief. You talked about prayer the spiritualist in the Western world are now saying the same thing.
I am now committed to respecting my ancestors.
Infact I now call them every morning as soon as I wake up .
    Thanks
    You are a life saver.
