  1. Inasmuch as I like what you are doing I would encourage you to look at your critical terms critically.
    A character is a general observable or measurable heritable feature of an organism. So for example skin colour is a heritable category that has several versions. So skin colour is a general category hence a character. Height and eye colour and nose shape and blood grouping are all characters.

    A specific heritable variant of a character is what is called a trait. Tallness or dwarfness is a trait but height as a general category is not a trait. It is rather a character.
    Think of character as a box that contains dogs. But if you open the box you would get either a male or female. So sex is a character but male for example is a trait.
